Instructure (Canvas), our learning management system (LMS) provider, recently notified us of a customer cybersecurity incident affecting its environment. We have also been notified some students may experience temporary interruptions accessing Canvas at this time.
Regarding Instructure’s cybersecurity incident: Instructure reports it contained the activity, addressed the vulnerability, and found no indication of ongoing unauthorized access. Its investigation is ongoing, and we are coordinating with Instructure to obtain organization-specific information regarding any potential impact to Appraisal Institute data.
Our Canvas environment contains limited user information, including names and email addresses, and does not store financial or highly sensitive personal information.
As a general security best practice, we encourage users to remain alert for suspicious emails, phishing attempts, or messages requesting personal information. Usernames and passwords are not stored within Canvas; access is provided through your Appraisal Institute My Account login. As a precaution, you may change your password at any time through the My Account portal. How do I update my information?
We will share additional updates if and when verified information becomes available.
